At first, the system may still work.

But the shape alone does not make it suitable.
The holder, water path, electrode spacing, seal, cable connection, and flow direction all affect performance. If the water does not pass evenly across the coated surface, part of the anode may work more heavily. If gas cannot leave the surface smoothly, the effective area drops. If the connection is weak, heat may build near the terminal.
A compact product can hide these problems.
The outside may look neat, but inside the cell, flow and current may not be balanced. This is why a tablet-type anode should be reviewed together with the full pool device design, not only as a loose part.
